In science class this week we were put into groups of four and challenged to make a tower.
With 20 sticks of spaghetti, 1 yard of tape, 1 yard of string, and 1 marshmallow, we were challenged to use these materials to create the largest free standing structure that will hold the marshmallow on the top.
We were given 18 minutes, and after the timer went off our teacher went around to measure all the successful structures. There were 8 groups participating, and 2 of those groups were unsuccessful (my group being one of them).

After completing the challenge, we watched a ted talk about this specific tech design activity. It showed told us that kindergarten students are much more successful at this activity, because they consider the marshmallow the whole time they are building. Not a single group used the marshmallow at each stage of their developing, they only took it into account when they were finished.
