Today in class we did a tea party activity. For this activity, our professor gave every student a piece of paper with a couple sentences from a piece of literature. We were to practice saying our section with proper punctuation and fluency. We were also suppose to examine our piece of work, and try to come up with the meaning.
After a few minutes of practicing, we played musical chairs. Music played and we traveled around the classroom, and when the music stopped we took a seat. At that table we recited our piece of literature and explained what we thought it meant. The music began playing again and the process would repeat.
This allows students to practice their reading, but also their analyzing of literature. There are definitely other ways to do this activity. For example, You could set the tables up into one long table, and the students all sit around it. The discuss with the person across from them, and then after a certain amount of time they all shift to the right.
