For this activity, students named the colours of the cards I held up (red, yellow, blue, green, orange). Then each student came up and picked a food card out of a bag and matched it with the colour. Through this activity we showed that we could eat a rainbow of fruits and vegetables.
We took it one step farther by learning about why eating a rainbow is good for us.
Red helps our heart
Orange gives us vitamin C
Yellow helps our skin
Green stops us from getting sick
Blue/Purple helps our brain
After this was engrained in their brains, we listened to the I Can Eat A Rainbow song a couple of times so that students learned the words and sang along with it.
This lesson seemed very beneficial as students were bringing foods up to me at lunch and telling me they are eating a red apple that will help their heart!
Attached below is my lesson plan for this activity!
